Chenille, from the
French word meaning "caterpillar" was popular in the 1940's-1960's.
Commonly used in bedspreads, pillow shams and bath accessories, the combination
of color, pattern and texture in the fabric evoke a playfulness I find
irresistible.
My bags are handcrafted from vintage chenille bedspreads. Usually all
cotton, those made from chenille manufactured in the 1960's may be of
a cotton/polyester blend. Either a vintage or mother of pearl button graces
each handbag.
The colorful geometric and floral patterns make a statement all their
own. Solid colors are hand dyed to enhance the inherent textural richness
of the fabric. Consider color irregularities to be a bonusl Some bags
are embellished with silk flower petals for a bit of whimsy. And on a
departure from chenille, velveteen with silk flower petals offer a bit
of romance.
Sling a bag over your shoulder and go. Youll need no other adornment to
look goodl
